This is the basic form of the steam boiler I am building. Credit to Lynx Steam Engines, as I stole this pic from their site.

Marcus, the Main Man at Lynx Motors has been guiding me through the mysteries of building a steam boiler and converting a lawnmower engine into a steam engine.

Yes, I did say a lawnmower engine. If you don't believe it, check out:

ok, well mostly I was just trying to learn how to post pictures and links. I'm off!

Where do we go from here?

Sometime in October of this year, I got the weird idea to build a steam boiler and a steam engine. I started doing the research...the results were disappointing. Expensive hobby! Hundreds of dollars to get a tiny little model steam engine that was only a curiousity for your desk.

Then I found the motherlode... lynx motors. Apparently someone who Got It, and understood that not all of us wanted to go a couple thousand dollars in debt to start steaming.

In the following posts, I will try to catalogue my foray into producing steam. Since I was always into comic books, computers and Star Trek, I am not a very physical guy, not very 'handy' and certainly ignorant of how to use tools.

Now two months later, I am still mostly ignorant and clumsy, but now I know the _depths_ of my ignorance. I have read about machining metals, welding, boring, cutting, grinding, steam, metals, alloys, concrete, brick, solar energy, combustion engines. The list goes on.

Stick with me, I will try to make it interesting.
